EN 16438: 2014. Quantitative surface test for the evaluation of fungicidal activity of chemical or yeasticidal disinfectants and antiseptics used in the veterinary area on non-porous surfaces without mechanical action. Test method and requirements (phase 2, step 2).

Test accredited by ENAC (Spanish National Accreditation Entity), for standard mandatory microorganisms and additionals.

This standard establishes the procedure to know if an antiseptic or disinfectant used in the veterinary area on non-porous surfaces without mechanical action, has fungicidal or yeasticidal activity considering the practical conditions of use, which can influence its action as are microorganisms on the surface, the presence of interfering substances, the contact time and temperature. The products tested under these conditions are those that can be used in veterinary applications on non-porous surfaces without the use of mechanical actions, in situations such as rearing, exploration, production, transportation and disposal of animals, except when in the food chain after slaughter and entry into the processed food industry. To be tested, the products should form a physically stable homogeneous preparation when diluted in hard water, or water in the case of products ready for use. The method uses as microorganisms for fungicidal activity Aspergillus brasiliensis and Candida albicans, and for yeasticidal activity only Candida albicans, but other optional desired microorganisms may be included. Binding assay temperature is 10ºC, but can also be tested at 4, 20 or 40ºC. The contact time required is 60 minutes, but may be included as additional 5, 30 or 120 minutes. There must be an interfering substance for high or low dirty as indicated by the standard, and any additional desired. For considering the product active under the test conditions specified by this standard, a reduction of 3 log10 in the number of microorganisms must be obtained.
