Virucidal activity in the Veterinary area against PRRS virus (Porcine Respiratory Reproductive Syndrome) according to methods UNE-EN 14675: 2015. Antiseptics and Chemical disinfectants. Quantitative suspensión assay for the evaluation of virucidal activity of antiseptics and chemical disinfectants used in the veterinary area. Method of assay and requirements –phase 2, step 1-).

Test accredited by ENAC (National Accreditation Entity).

The UNE-EN test uses bovine Enterovirus type 1 as an obligate virus. Other optional additional viruses proposed by the client can be used, as in this case, a virucidal test with the virus PRRSV (Porcine Respiratory and Reproductive virus), that affects pigs, but not transmitted to people, and it is a major cause of production losses.

The test must be carried out at a mandatory temperature of 10ºC and for a mandatory time of 30 minutes. Optional additional temperatures may be chosen as 4°C, 20°C or 40°C, and as optional additional times 1, 5 or 60 minutes may be used. The test can be performed under simulated conditions of low dirtiness or in simulated conditions of high dirtiness. The product should be tested at three concentrations at least, including one in the active range and one in the non-active range (these last two concentrations are chosen by the laboratory that performs the test since they correspond to the positive and negative controls, respectively). To consider the virucidal product a logarithmic reduction of 4 in infectivity must be demonstrated.
