This test uses an obligate organism (Mycobacterium avium). The test must be performed at a mandatory temperature of 10°C and for a mandatory time of 60 minutes. In addition, it may be performed with optional additional temperatures of 4, 20 or 40° C, and for optional additional times of 1, 5, 10, 15, 30 or 120 minutes. The test can be performed under simulated low dirt conditions or in simulated high dirt conditions. The product should be tested for at least three concentrations including one in the non active range and one in the active range (these last two concentrations are selected by the testing laboratory). The product should be tested by the dilution-neutralization method. To consider the mycobactericidal product a log reduction of 4 in the number of viable counts must be demonstrated.
