EN 14349: 2012. Quantitative surface test for the evaluation of bacterial activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in veterinary area on non-porous surfaces without mechanical action. Test method and requirements (phase 2, step 2).
This test uses four bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus hirae) as mandatory organisms to determine the bactericidal activity. Other additional bacteria may be used for specific applications. The test must be performed at a mandatory temperature of 10°C and a mandatory time of 30 minutes. Additional optional temperatures of 4, 20 or 40°C, and optional additional times of 1, 5, and 60 minutes may be used for bactericidal activity. The test can be performed under simulated low-level dirty conditions or in simulated high-level dirty conditions. The product should be tested for at least three concentrations including one in the non-active range and one in the active range (these last two concentrations are selected by the testing laboratory). The product is tested on stainless steel surfaces and bacterial viability is assessed by the dilution-neutralization method. To consider the bactericidal product a log reduction of 4 in the number of viable bacteria must be demonstrated.
