Newcastle Disease virus (Avian paramyxovirus type 1) - Molecular diagnosis (RT-PCR)
Newcastle disease is a highly contagious bird disease affecting many domestic and wild birds, which can cause outbreaks among poultry by high sensitivity of these. Newcastle disease is caused by a Paramyxovirus called disease virus (NDV: Newcastle Disease virus) or Paravixovirus type 1: This virus is a member of the genus Rubulavirus (subfamily Paramyxovirinae, Family Paramyxoviridae). There are 9 serologic subtypes of avian paramyxovirus, virus and Newcastle disease corresponds to avian paramyxovirus 1 (APMV-1). This virus, like the Avian influenza (AI) virus affecting poultry. Some of the serotypes of avian paramyxovirus (APMV) found in wild waterfowl, so it is thought that these are the natural reservoir. These birds would be the transmission source for domestic birds. Once the virus strain has infected domestic poultry will cause an epidemic and cause significant economic loss. This virus installations should be handled in Biosafety Level 3. This virus can affect people causing conjunctivitis and flu - like symptoms. The consequences for the infected birds depend on the strain involved and may vary from 90% to 10% or less. Transmission occurs through feces or other excretions from infected birds, or through contact with food, water, or plumage facilities, contaminated. Sample storage: pruebaq for RT-PCR, keep refrigerated samples in sterile polypropylene containers. Samples should be sent to the laboratory within a biological safety container, and this in turn, in a box of expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) containing cold accumulators (frozen packs) to ensure cooling during transportation.
Tests performed in IVAMI: in IVAMI test performed RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription-Polymerase chain reaction). The results have a delivery time of 2 to 4 days from the receipt of the sample.
