Administration clarifications on the management of the rabies antibody quantification test for samples sent from SPAIN

Our experience with some common problems related to the administrative management of the rabies antibody test has led us to communicate the following:

  1. Payment management (provide details for payment verification): The difficulties sometimes encountered in matching a deposit made by bank transfer or cash to the indicated bank account with the payment for a test remind us of the need to indicate the "name of the pet" and the "name of the owner" indicated on the form to whom the invoice should be issued. This will make it easier to match a deposit with a test and avoid delays in sending the result.
  2. Payment management (payments to send the report): Please note that the laboratory, once it receives the serum sample, will begin performing the test and will not send the result until payment has been received. The laboratory will be sent an email informing you that the report is complete, requesting proof of payment if the payment has not been received.
  3. Sending results by postal mail only: Because the airport veterinary services have detected falsified reports, we cannot send scanned results by email. For this reason, the original report with the results, along with the test invoice, will be sent by email to the email address you have provided, with a digital signature. The client who submits the test is aware that they have 9 business days from the moment they send the sample to make their payment. The client should be aware that from the moment they make the deposit into the indicated bank account until the laboratory is notified, it takes at least 24 hours for payments made from Spain, and approximately 3 to 4 days for payments made from other countries. Payments by check, credit card, or bizum are not accepted.
  4. Managing report submissions: In the information provided regarding the test completion time, a maximum of 9 days is indicated. These 9 days correspond to the business days (Monday to Friday, excluding holidays) required to perform the test, counting from the day the serum sample is received at the laboratory, provided the entire testing process has worked correctly. If, for any unusual reason, a repeat test is required during the test, we cannot issue the report within this period. Under normal circumstances, the laboratory will issue and send only the test result in a report, along with the invoice, which will be sent by email to the address you have provided, unless you provide us with a different shipping address. If you need them urgently, you must send a courier service at your own expense, postage prepaid, for their collection.
  5. Performing a second test on the same pet: if the first test results in an anti-rabies antibody concentration is less than 0.5 IU/mL, and it must be repeated with the submission of a new sample, the cost of the second test is the same as the first (€121, taxes included), which must be paid again following the instructions indicated previously.
